CII IGBC strengthens AndhraPradesh’s green vision with capacity building programme for APCRDA officials.
Andhra Pradesh is leading India’sgreen transformation by integrating sustainability into its urban developmentagenda through the Swarna Andhra 2047 and Net Zero 2040 vision. The statecapital Amaravati is being developed as a model green city, with its masterplan achieving IGBC Platinum certification in 2018. Through a strategicpartnership with IGBC, Andhra Pradesh is ensuring that all APCRDA-led andprivate infrastructure projects adopt green building norms.
As Andhra Pradesh accelerates itsjourney toward realizing the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision and achieving Net Zeroby 2040, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation ofIndian Industry (CII), conducted an exclusive Capacity Building Programme forofficials of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA)in Vijayawada. The session brought together over 50 APCRDA officials for a deepdive into the concepts and practices of IGBC Green Building Rating Systems.
The programme aimed to empowergovernment departments to lead by example in implementing green building normsacross all upcoming infrastructure developments.
Delivering the keynote address,Sri K Kanna Babu, I.A.S., Commissioner, APCRDA, emphasized the strategicimportance of sustainable development in urban planning. He said, “AndhraPradesh is fully committed to building a sustainable future, with Amaravatienvisioned as a model green capital. We are taking decisive steps to ensurethat every project under APCRDA integrates sustainable design and greenbuilding principles. As a testament to this commitment, we aim to achieve greenand Net Zero building certification for the upcoming APCRDA Head Office in Amaravati.This flagship project will serve as a demonstration and inspiration for allfuture developments in the region. IGBC’s guidance and collaboration remaincrucial in our journey towards achieving Net Zero status by 2040."

Amaravati, envisioned as a modelgreen capital, achieved a significant milestone in 2018 when its Master Plan — IGBCcertified by design — was awarded the IGBC Green Cities 'Platinum' Ratingduring the Happy Cities Summit. In recognition of this, the Honourable ChiefMinister, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, was felicitated for showcasing AndhraPradesh’s long-term commitment to building resilient, resource-efficient, andliveable cities for future generations.
The programme is part of IGBC’songoing efforts to build capacity, strengthen awareness, and encouragewide-scale adoption of green practices among public and private stakeholders,further cementing Andhra Pradesh’s position as a leader in sustainabledevelopment.
