CCEA approves construction of 6-lane access controlled Zirakpur Bypass in Punjab and Haryana
The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA),chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the constructionof a 19.2 km long 6-lane Zirakpur Bypass on Hybrid Annuity Mode under NationalHighway (Original) in the States of Punjab and Haryana. The total capitalexpenditure of the project is INR 1,878.31-crore.
The Zirakpur Bypass starts from the NationalHighway-7 (Chandigarh-Bhatinda) junction and ends at the Junction of NationalHighway-5 (Zirakpur-Parwanoo) in Panchkula, Haryana, following the comprehensiveplan of the Punjab government in Punjab, thus avoiding the highly urbanised andcongested part of NH-5 (Zirakpur-Parwanu) in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana.
The primary objective of the project is to diverttraffic from Patiala, Delhi, Mohali Aero City by reducing traffic in Zirakpur,Panchkula, and surrounding areas and providing direct connectivity to Himachal Pradesh.The objective of the present proposal is to reduce travel time and make the congestedurban areas of National Highway-7, National Highway-5 and National Highway-152 freeof traffic bottlenecks.
