Marking a new era for long-haul transportation, VolvoTrucks recently launched India’s first Road Train solution. Flagged off by Hon’bleMinister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, in Nagpur, theRoad Train completed extensive trials in Indian conditions with Delhivery Ltd.between their Nagpur and Bhiwandi hubs.
The Road Train concept was formally incorporated intoregulations in 2020, allowing for vehicle lengths up to 25.25 meters. A Road Trainconsists of a tractor unit towing two or more trailers, significantlyincreasing cargo capacity.
Volvo Truck’s Road Train features the industry-leading VolvoFM 420 4x2 tractor, a 24-ft. containerized intermediate trailer, and a 44-ft.semi-trailer, delivering a combined cargo volume of 144 cubic meters — 50 percent higher than standard semi-trailers. Following successful completion of rigoroustesting and trials, Volvo FM 420 4X2 Road Train is certified by MoRTH and ARAIfor operation between Delhivery hubs of Nagpur and Bhiwandi.
The Volvo FM 420 4X2 Road Train is equipped with advancedsafety features, including Electronic Braking System (EBS) and ElectronicStability Program (ESP), 360-degree camera system, self-steerable axle on thetrailer, dashboard load monitor, downhill cruise control, stretch brake forenhanced stability and control to name a few.
