The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved development of 80.45 km long 4-lane corridor of Badnawar-Petlawad-Thandla-Timarwani section of NH-752D at a total cost of INR 3,839.42-crore. The corridor will provide direct connectivity to Ujjain via Timarwani Interchange with Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
The primary objective of the proposed four-lane
corridor is to improve passenger efficiency and is expected to reduce travel
time by about one hour. The 70.40 km long Ujjain-Badnawar section has already
been converted from 2-lane to 4-lane corridor.
Though the Badnawar-Timravani section is currently a
5.5-metre wide middle line, it is of low quality and the speed of vehicles is
only 20-50 kmph. After four-laning, vehicles will be able to travel at a speed
of 80-100 kmph on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway from Ujjain to Timravani
interchange.
The Badnawar-Petlawad, Thandla-Timarwani route
passes through the tribal districts of Dhar and Jhabua. A part of Dhar district
comes under the Aspirational Blocks Programme of NITI Aayog. The upgradation of
this section will provide direct and faster access to the Delhi-Mumbai
Expressway through Ujjain-Badnawar-Timarwani corridor.
The improved connectivity will reduce logistics costs, ease the movement of raw materials and finished goods, and provide easy access to industrial hubs and multi-modal logistics parks located at Indore, Pithampur, Ujjain, and Dewas.
