The Elevator that took Prime Minister Narendra Modi atop the new National Emblem; Spartan Exhibits an Engineering Marvel

WhenPrime Minister Narendra Modi stepped into a specially designed elevator thattook him straight atop the new Parliament building at the 6.5 – metre – highNational Emblem carved in massive 9,500 kg of bronze, India unveiled andcelebrated yet another marvel of creating a super sculpture blended with meticulousengineering to give an identity of New India. 


The Central foyer of the newParliament building of an ambitious Central Vista project that dons the superstructure of the National Emblem where the four lions are mounted back-to-backon a circular abacus and the frieze of the abacus is adorned with sculptures ofan elephant, a galloping horse, a bull, and a lion separated by intervening Dharma Chakras, the supporting 6,500 kg structureof steel and the building that adores the National Emblem are being reckoned tobe new engineering marvels. 

Tata Projects, which constructed theRs 862 crore new Parliamentary building of the iconic Central Vista - a three-kmstretch in the heart of New Delhi that runs from the Rashtrapati Bhavan toIndia Gate - has set a striking example of innovation and construction bysetting up a symbol of new India. 

Dr Vikram Mehta, Managing Director,Spartan Engineering Industries Limited, India’s leading manufacturer ofconstruction equipment and fire evacuation lifts, lauded the efforts and acumenof the team of Tata Projects working on this landmark project. Being a part ofthe Tata Projects team to construct and install the elevator that is used toreach atop the new Parliament Building, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi usedduring unveiling of the National Emblem, Dr Mehta said, “Making a new Parliamentbuilding to bear a giant 9,500 kg of the National Emblem statue on its roof isnothing but an engineering acumen and we admire exceptional engineering andproject implementation skills the Tata Projects team have exhibited. Thestrength and quality of this building is exceptional and we, at SpartanEngineering Industries, are proud to be associated with this mega project; aswe were privileged to install the elevator that is used to reach to theNational Emblem atop the New Parliament building that Hon. Prime Minister usedto reach during its unveiling.”

Flanked by large green spaces andcontaining significant structures such as Parliament, the Secretariat buildingsand the National Archives, the Central Vista is recognised around the world asa rare example of innovative urban planning and architecture. 

The Housing and Urban AffairsMinistry had allocated Rs 2,600 crore in Union Budget 2022-23 for theconstruction of non-residential office buildings of the Central Vistaredevelopment project, including the Parliament and Supreme Court.
