Celebrating Safety week in a unique way/ A Run for safety


Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. Konecranes as a company believes in this statement and to extend this to society, they organized a marathon in the scenic locale of Jejuri, Pune where Konecranes world’s biggest factory is located. The Marathon symbolizes the safety week which is celebrated across India from 4th to 10th March spreading the message of safety’s importance in every part of our life. Jejuri’s first marathon took off in style on Sunday 5th March,attracting hundreds of runners together from different age groups, nationalities and occupations, giving an opportunity to celebrate a sport that is taking India by storm. The opening ceremony of the Marathon Carnival was officiated by Mr. Suhas Baxi, MD – sub region South Asia Konecranes, Dr. RamdasKute, President JIMA, & Mr. Aniruddh Abhyankar.



It was a day filled with the spirit of triumph, fantastic achievement and victories where many new running sports enthusiasts were created. Jejuri Marathon was run in 3 categories namely 3km, 5 km and 10 km. 10KM route was the toughest as it went upto the hill of Khandoba temple. Runners were being cheered & encouraged enthusiastically by the local crowd making them part of the marathon. To keep up the spirit, fun and engagement activities were also organized like live music and Zumba.
As part of its social initiatives and to promote safety, Konecranes provided 40 helmets to Jejuri police and it was collected by Mr. RamadasWakode, Assistant Police Inspector, Jejuri Police station.


Commenting on 1st Jejuri marathon,Mr. Suhas Baxi, MD – sub region South Asia Konecranes said, “Konecranes with this Jejuri Marathon wants to promote safety as a practice in whatever we do especially at the workplace. At the same time, Konecranes has been engaging and contributing through various social initiatives like Helmet distribution to Pune police, participating in SwachtaAbhiyan at Khandoba temple, Jejuri and many more. The resilience and the “Can-Do Spirit” evident in marathon events are core values of Konecranes and we would like to encourage and witness the race to develop into a signature event of Jejuri.”
